1995 1995 International 2-wheel drive

Unit 41 is a 1995 International 2-wheel drive type I ALS equipped ambulance. The truck has an air-ride suspension for patient and crew comfort that provides the capability to raise and lower the back end for ease of loading and unloading patients. Unit 41 is also equipped with automatic tire chains for safer operation in inclement weather. As with all BLSC ambulances, Unit 41 is equipped with UHF, VHF, and 800mhz radios for communication with dispatch centers, other BLSC Units, Hospitals, and surrounding agencies.

2005 2005 GMC 4500 4-wheel drive

Unit 42 is a 2005 GMC 4500 4-wheel drive type I ALS equipped ambulance. The truck has an air-ride suspension for patient and crew comfort that provides the capability to raise and lower the back end for ease of loading and unloading patients. As with all BLSC ambulances, Unit 42 is equipped with UHF, VHF, and 800mhz radios for communication with dispatch centers, other BLSC Units, Hospitals, and surrounding agencies. Unit 42 is our tallest ambulance limiting its accessibility on calls where space is limited as well as allowing it only to fit into three of our six bay doors. For this reason, unit 42 is primarily housed at Bristol Virginia Fire Station 3 and runs as BLSC Rescue 3.

As with all BLSC ambulances, Unit 44 is equipped with UHF, VHF, and 800mhz radios for communication with dispatch centers, other BLSC Units, Hospitals, and surrounding agencies.

1994 1994 Chevrolet 3500 4-wheel drive

Unit 45 is a 1994 Chevrolet 3500 4-wheel drive light duty rescue truck. It is equipped with all the necessary equipment to provide basic vehicle rescue and extrication as well as forcible entry into a residence. Unit 45 is very versatile due to its small size and plethora of equipment. It is used at the Bristol Motor Speedway for infield rescue stand-by for most major events. Unit 45 is also equipped with ALS-Enhanced medical supplies and can function in the role of a quick response vehicle if needed.

1984 1984 Mack 2-wheel drive heavy rescue truck

Unit 46 is a 1984 Mack 2-wheel drive heavy rescue truck. This is the most versatile unit at the BLSC. Functions served by this unit include, light and heavy duty vehicle rescue, heavy and tactical rescue (structural collapse, etc.), rope rescue, mobile command post, mobile scene lighting, fire department support for rehab and mobile cascade, as well as a mini MCI response unit and ALS Enhanced medical equipment including mass oxygen delivery. Unit 46 is also equipped with automatic tire chains for safer operation in inclement weather. Operators of unit 46 must be certified at the Class III level in EVOC and must complete an in depth training program on the truck's operation. Members who choose to undertake the task of becoming operators of unit 46 must complete a rigorous test on equipment location and operation as well as vehicle operation before being checked off on this unit. BLSC's heavy rescue team took unit 46 to Virginia Beach in September of 2006 for the annual VAVRS convention and the truck received a perfect score at the heavy truck competition. Take a tour of this unit below to learn more about its incredible functionality.

Unit 51 is a 2006 GMC 2500HD 4 wheel drive pick-up/utility truck. It is certified at the ALS Paramedic level in Virginia. Unit 51 has a state of the art LED lighting package as well as a powerful Whelen dual tone siren. Its small size makes it extremely useful in gaining access to off road patients and for getting rescuers to the scene of such calls as water and rope rescues which are typically a good distance from a paved road. Unit 51 is sometimes used as an ALS intercept vehicle for calls to help surrounding agencies who call us for help. This unit is also used by BLSC members for out of town travel to training classes and meetings.
